Computing Club: Tuesdays in A28, 3.10pm to 4.10pm

The school programme for extracurricular activities is revised each year and published early in the autumn term. Extracurricular activities for students are broad, varied and age-appropriate. They include:

  • educational visits and trips
  • sports activities and events
  • performing arts opportunities, concerts and shows
  • careers and work experience opportunities
  • community choir
All after school clubs run from 3.10 to 4.10pm (unless specified). Students are to turn up with PE kit to the Sports Hall for PE clubs and the specified room for Expressive Arts and other department clubs. There is no late bus service for after school clubs and parents are advised that students are to arrange their own transport home.

Educational visits and trips

Educational visits and trips enhance the learning experience of students. They vary in duration, from half a day through to overnight, and extended stays. Visits and trips are planned to complement the curriculum and are age-appropriate for students. Longer trips typically mean longer planning – so we commit to offering these to parents/carers at least two terms in advance. The opportunity for visits within the school day will be communicated at least one term in advance. Information about charges for visits and trips can be found within the MAT Charging and Remissions Policy.

Sports activities and events

Our extensive extracurricular programme takes full advantage of our superb facilities which include:

  • an all-weather pitch,
  • extensive fields,
  • hard court netball/tennis courts,
  • two sports halls,
  • dance studio and fitness suite.

All students have regular access to activities that run after school and participation rates are very high. Our sports teams are the envy of many schools. We have hockey, netball, football, rugby league, rounders, cricket, athletics and basketball teams.

In recent years several of our students have been chosen to represent our region or county and even Great Britain, including our own Marcus Ellis who won the bronze medal for men’s doubles badminton in the Rio Olympic Games.

We also offer table tennis, trampolining, badminton and dance clubs, with students having opportunities to display their performances both in school and at external events. Our Sports Leadership Academy is well established and our students help coach at clubs both in school and in our primary feeder schools,  as well as assisting with the organisation of a variety of sports festivals.

In addition, the PE department organise regular trips within and outside the UK focusing on team building, skiing and football tours.
