Principal's latest letter to Parents
14th November 2019
Dear Parent / Carer,
Another full year group for 2020
It appears that our new Year 7 cohort for September 2020 will be oversubscribed again which is fantastic for our school and creates greater stability. It has been such a busy start to the new academic year. Year 7 continue to be magnificent as they have been since the start to their transition in July. I am confident that the school is moving from strength to strength.
Astro Turf is near to completion
Weather permitting, the new Astro Turf Pitch (ATP) should be completed within the next two weeks. This is an incredible resource that all students will benefit from, the surface of which, will improve their experiences. I would like to thank Mrs J Ryan (Chair of the Board of Directors) who secured £245,000 (over two thirds of the cost) by writing a bid to the ‘Healthy Pupils’ Capital Fund’ to improve the physical activity of students. She has project managed the construction of this to allow me to concentrate on education. Please continue to pick up and drop off outside of the school gates, we have reduced our parking spaces whilst construction is underway and during these darker evenings I want to minimise the amount of moving traffic when children are around for their safety. Thank you in advance.
Use of Parent Pay
We have significantly increased the number of school enrichment events such as school trips which require students to bring money into school. I would like to make these processes easier for you by encouraging and promoting the use of ‘Parent Pay’. I think this method of payment is easier and safer for everyone. If you wish to register with Parent Pay, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be happy to send out joining details.
Mathematics Department Update
I am pleased to be able to announce that we have recently filled our vacancy in Mathematics and I am delighted to welcome Mrs Butterworth into the department. Mrs Butterworth joins us with a wealth of experience, is a passionate teacher and has leadership experience.
We are also pleased to have appointed another two Mathematics specialists who will join the department in January. Both members of staff are experienced and will add significant value to our team.
In addition, I am happy to confirm that the Key stage 3 Maths Enrichment is available again on a Tuesday to anyone who would like additional support - or would like to explore the opportunity to participate in Maths competitions.
School Improvement 2019-20 and planning ahead
The ‘GOOD’ Ofsted judgement has generated a lot of positivity within and around the school. Several schools, colleges and other school leaders have been requesting contact to learn from what we have been doing. We are accommodating but I want to make it very clear that the senior team will not be changing their focus as we embark on our next stage. The ethos, values and vision of the school remain the same and we will be relentless in pursuing our priorities. Officially becoming a ‘GOOD’ school does not change what we are doing. We are continuing to prioritise the quality of education ensuring that all students receive a consistently good quality of education, whilst supporting them to contribute as fully as possible to their learning.
I want all students and staff to be as happy and confident as possible as I believe this is the key to personal development. The greater a person’s resilience and strength of character the better they can apply themselves to the challenges of work, school and life in general.
I will continue to develop links within the community and to explore additional ways that we can contribute to our Valley over the forthcoming years. I am very passionate and proud of our school in the heart of the Colne Valley.
Communication is vital between all stakeholders, please keep in contact and share your feedback. As always, I encourage you to contact the school if you require any assistance, together we are stronger!
Mr J Christian
